800744 Whimsical works of art yet completely functional, Yixing (pronounce ee-shing) teapots first appeared centuries ago in the Yixing region of China. This region is the world's only source for the unique clay, called purple or red clay, from which these teapots are made. Yixing teapots are particularly valued due to the porous nature of this clay. Since the inside of the teapot is left uncoated, they eventually absorb the flavor, smell, and color of the tea. In addition, the clay, once fired, contains tiny air pockets that provide insulation and enhance the taste and aroma of fine tea. To clean, rinse with plain water and air dry. 8 oz. 800744 (Page 36 of the print catalog or pdf version)
